St Swithin's Church - Great Chishill
Our client required an annual aerial inspection of their church located in Great Chishill, Cambridge. This included a full inspection of the roofs and brickwork across the entire upper sections of the church structure.
Churches tend to be older and require more maintenance than other buildings. It is therefore important that they are subject to regular inspections to check for early signs of problems.
Traditionally the church would have to contract a scaffolding company to create a suitable platform for aerial inspections to take place. This is almost always very expensive and time consuming. It also means that for a period of time the church is covered with an unsightly veneer of metal framework.
There are also the health and safety implications to factor in whenever scaffolding is in situ both in terms of the workers utilising it and members of the public walking in its vicinity.
Our team were able to complete an entire survey for the church owners in less than two hours. We then sent a detailed photographic and video report less than 48 hours later which could be assessed by the church team.
The drains shown above have previously suffered with blockages due to erosion of the brickwork above them. Our scans showed that whilst the erosion was still occuring, there were currently no blockages.
As our drone surveys are significantly cheaper than traditional survey methods, the church can now afford to be more proactive with their building maintenance by:
- Identifying potential problems earlier.
- Providing images or video to contractors for more accurate quotes for remedial work.
- Providing images or video to insurers in the event of a claim.
- Performing rapid inspections following bad weather to check for damage.
- Documenting damage and repairs for future reference.
